The challenge of change...

If we take the time to look around us we all notice just how much our world has changed and continues to do so. From the time before TV, then computers and now mobile phones. That alone is a massive change, not mentioning how we travel, or what we wear and eat. Amazing isn't it. Makes you wonder what our world is going to look like in 10 or 20 years time. If I think back to my youth, things were certainly very different to how they are now. And if we didn't keep up with the change going on around us, we would be left behind. Possibly left feeling isolated, frustrated, alienated and stuck. Not the greatest feelings are they. So we can all confirm that keeping up with change can be a positive step forward, no matter what that change is or how big or small. So then, why is it so many of us resist change so strongly? Is it the fear of failure, the fear of uncertainty or possibly even the fear of success! So how do we get through the challenge change brings for us. Well there are a few things you can do for yourself to help: 1. Acknowledge the change, hiding under the covers or pretending it isn't happening is only going to cause you more stress. 2. Face your fears! Ask yourself what you are worried about? Most times what we are most fearful of is all in our head. We are great at worrying about stuff before there is anything to actually worry about. 3. Confront your feelings and seek support for whatever is coming up for you. If you don't, you will keep making excuses. Preferably get support from somebody that is outside your circle of influence, that is neutral and can provide support and give you tools to deal with whatever is coming up for you. 4. Be flexible! Acknowledge that things will not always go according to plan and that its ok. Sticking to a stringent plan without any flexibility for the unknown that so often comes up is setting yourself up for failure. 5. Communicate! Communication is key. Nobody knows how you feel until you actually tell them. 6. Ensure you do what you can to reduce stress and anxiety. Quieten your mind. This can be done by meditating and writing in a journal, grateful diaries are awesome, ground yourself by getting out into nature and the fresh air as often as you can. Viewing the challenge of change in a different way, one that is more positive and productive, will certainly help. Remember, we don't grow when things are easy, we grow when we face challenges.
