September news - want to increase your energy? READ THIS!
It is officially the first of Spring here in New Zealand! New life and energy is all around us, so why is it that as it gets closer to the end of the year so many of us tend to feel less energized.
We often get asked, "what should I do better in my life" or "I'm not sure what to do" When probing a little deeper certain patterns of behavior become clear. Often going something like...
Oh, I want to do x but I just feel like I can’t right now because…
I’ve been struggling with my weight/anxiety/stress, etc. ever since…
I come home tired and frustrated and all I want to do is watch TV and switch off…
Any of these sounds familiar? Well you are not alone! Here are a few simple things you can do to help improve your energy levels, which will then improve your focus and success.
Why is this important? Well simple really, if you don’t take care of these things, you will end up using your energy quicker than you can replenish it. Remember life isn't mean to be a chore... yet so many of us behave like it is. Lets work on changing that!
We are faced with distractions every second of the day. Things both in and out of our control seek to challenge, manage, and even steal our precious time and energy…two of the arguably most important assets of our life.
When things feel as though they’re spiraling out of control, I like to examine the following 6 things in my life to see where I’ve lost track.
1. Mental Energy Drainage
We use our brains a lot each and every day, which can become exhausting.
Thinking, making decisions, remembering, maintaining relationships – all of this consumes energy.
We really don't want to be using more energy than we need to to do this, however, most people try to ‘think’ their way out of a problem instead of letting themselves restore their mind.
This is one of the simplest methods you can use to restore your energy and it really is effective.
We are great fans of meditation. We've only been meditating on a daily basis for around 18 months now, starting with 5 minutes and now up to around 20 minutes. This specific meditation is great to use before you start the day. Practice this every morning for about 5 minutes.
Sit up comfortably, preferably with your back straight.
With each breath you take in, breath as if you are soaking up the day ahead. As you breath out, breathe out the day that was. Then continue as follows…
As you breath in, repeat to yourself, “My energy is enough; I am capable of all things.”
As you breath out, repeat to yourself, “Yesterday is gone; I have only today.”
Keep doing this on a daily basis until it becomes part of your morning routine. It only takes 5 minutes, but WELL worth it!
Once you are in this relaxed state and are aware of your breath, think about all of your energy rolled up into a ball and visualize it pushing through the top of your head all the way to the bottom of your spine.
This is a great way to help prepare you for the day.
2. Lets get physical
If you often feel physically exhausted (without doing excess physical exercise), it’s most likely because your body does not know how to metabolize energy efficiently. The most effective way to over come this is to actually do regular physical activity.
So many of us struggle to fit exercise into our busy lives, but even as little as 10 minutes a day is proven to be extremely effective. (And hey, if you are unable to fit in 10 minutes, then you really need to reorganize other areas of your life)
It is really no surprise that exercise can have great benefits for your physical and mental health. There is a reason its called natures anti-depressant and it has personally helped me keep the morbs away more than you will ever know), but remember that your body is a vessel for energy to flow in and out of you. So keep in mind that you are exercising to help your energy flow.
There are plenty of exercises and training regimens that you can do – from strength training, running, walking to water aerobics, pick one that you enjoy the most and stick with it. Make it as important as brushing your teeth!
We we only have one body, so it makes sense to take care of it.
3. Diet & Nutrition
In addition to exercise, you must also be taking in a healthy amount of nutritious food each week.
If not, you can not expect to have the energy you require. Your body needs healthy food to function at its best and to give you the energy you need. There is a reason its said breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. Our body has been resting all night and needs to be fueled in order for it to perform for the day and so you don't get the late afternoon slump.
Your diet consists of things both inclusive and exclusive of food. However, if you don’t have a good foundation with food, then you may be struggling with other harmful energies…because each and every bite we take has a certain amount of energy in it.
Some foods like brown rice have a low-glycemic index and promote better organ productivity, whereas other foods spike your insulin levels and create harm.
Remember that energy in food also corresponds to the season as well…so depending on where you are based, it pays to eat seasonally in order to receive the most out of what you’re eating.
As for taking supplements, I try to keep them as low as possible since they are ‘supplements’ to my diet and not meant to y replace anything that I should already be eating.
Here is an exercise you can try, follow the food through your body once you have swallowed it. This will encourage you to eat slower and concentrate on releasing the energy in your food so it gets to every area of your body that needs it. You don't have to do this every time you eat, but simply being more aware of the food as it passes through your body from start to finish will allow you to create a deeper connection with your food.
4. How hygienic are you
Is your hygiene costing you?
Just as we cleanse our energy and energy flow, so must we cleanse our skin, teeth, and hair as well. That's why you feel so much better after a shower or brushing your teeth.
Unfortunately a lot of people do not very have good hygienic practices…so their energy and health suffer without them realizing it.
Do your best to maintain a solid hygienic routine every day. Find pH-balanced or alkali balanced products like soap or shampoo that will maintain the balance of your skin. There are plenty of products you can now find in your local supermarket. We love the Organic Care and Health Basics range and the baking soda toothpaste is awesome!
Unless you have skin problems or issues, generally speaking, our skin has a natural acid mantle that already works to prevent infection. If you use products that work against that protection, you will be working against your body instead of with it.
5. Not enought zzz's
Everyone needs a different amount of rest, but regardless of who you are, we all need rest!
If we don’t take the time to listen to our bodies, our energy can stagnate or leave us completely… its most important to listen to your body instead of trying to rewire it to a completely different schedule.
Its generally recommended that we get between 7-9 hours of sleep a day, which can sometimes seem impossible…try and make sure you make getting enough rest a priority. That also means turning off the TV and devices at least an hour or 30 minutes before you go to bed so your brain can settle.
In this way, you force yourself to restore your used energy. The biggest benefit? You’ll feel extra boosted and recharged.
6. Fulfilling those Personal Goals
This is the last, and possibly the most important. Everyone has things they have always wanted to do…but maybe they’ve put them off or assume that ‘it’s not the right time’ or 'I'm not ready yet'. We hear this all the time – but this is absolutely the wrong assumption.
As a result of negative thoughts, your Aura is cluttered and not as ‘radiant’ and 'clear' as it should be. Only you know whether you’re being truly honest with yourself…but the facts don’t lie. As long as you keep denying yourself of what you want, your energy will always suffer.
We often hear “what I want seems impossible…what do I do?”
If you or someone you know has asked this question, make a plan to see exactly what you would need to do in order for what you want to happen. Then start with the first step. And most importantly, watch your thoughts, your mind is responding to the signals your energy is sending to you…often it is your deepest inner longing, or something you want to do more than anything - which is precisely what you have come into this life to explore.
Your best assurance of health is to do it. Make a plan, explore what it would take to happen, and start!
Even if it takes a long time to get there, if you don’t start out on the journey, you won’t reach the goal. If you do and continue to walk toward it, you will. Your inner guidance will guarantee it.
More than anything, remember that your life is yours alone to live… your calling requires your devotion and conviction to follow it through. Your life task to feel fulfillment, ultimately, is up to you to make it happen.
Whether you’ve been struggling with anxiety your whole life…suffer from a debilitating genetic disease, … want to make a different in the world, for your family and yourself, it is possible to achieve it.
Now is the time – so... what’s your next move?
